This online handbook has been developed within the
framework of INTERREG IIIB BSR project Via Baltica
Nordica Development Zone (VBNDZ). It is a result of
cooperation in an international
team group
consisting of
partners from Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia,
Lithuania, Poland and Germany under the project’s
theme “GIS and planning methods”.
The handbook addresses both “GIS experts” and
interested people with little or no knowledge of
geographic information systems. It shall be a source
of inspiration for politicians as well as for
representatives of public administration and other
institutions to start using and/or to advance the
usage of GIS.
The aim of this handbook is to give general
information on the development and concept of
geographic information systems (GIS). Most of all,
it will show good practice of GIS application in the
fields of tourism, citizen involvement, landscape
management and planning etc. from the project
partners of VBNDZ and additional good practice
examples identified. In that way, this online
handbook will contribute to an even further transfer
of knowledge and experience on GIS application.
